Underground Utility Locating

Utility locating refers to the process of digging a test pit to collect all necessary data on an underground utility's depth, location, elevation, condition and proximity to other utilities. The test pits are excavated using vacuum excavation trucks which are efficient and non-destructive.

Underground Utility Designating

Utility designating is the process of surface marking where underground utilities are located using color-coded water-soluble spray paint markings. These marks can then be surveyed into design plans or existing site plans. The utilities are located using EM-based locators which pick up any conductive materials inside the utilities.

Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR)

Ground-Penetrating Radar is used to detect any disturbances in underground strata which may indicate the need to dig. It is very effective in locating underground tanks, vaults, and grave sites. This technology is not appropriate for all types of underground detection and depends heavily on the type of ground as far as rock content, clay, etc.
